This particular following diet is not really a diet at all.  So let out that breathe you were holding in because if you’re anything like me, you absolutely loathe the word “diet”.

You can’t blame me; the term has the word “die” in it. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

Fact, you have heard the term Paleo tossed around everywhere. Articles, books, talk shows, doctors, colleagues, Facebook, etc., etc. Fact, you don’t know what hell it is. Fact, even if you did know, you would not really care because with all the fad diets happening these days, how could this one really be any different?

Listen up folks; if I were to even begin explaining to you what Paleo is, I'd probably need a whole day because when I talk about something I truly believe in, that passion turns into anger and that anger turns into me always getting on someone’s last damn nerve. Yup, I’m that person.

What is Paleo?

Simply, it is a lifestyle that is based on the regimen of our cavemen ancestors. But Lena, what does that even mean?

Well, my good people, let me take you back to a time I like to call “66 million years ago”. Back when we were hunters, gatherers, savages. Back when there was no such thing as Harry Potter or The Department of Agriculture.

When you decide to go Paleo, you are deciding on a lifestyle that will forever change your life. You are deciding to better your body, mind, and spirit.

Do you really believe our ancestors sat on a couch all day, in front of a 42” LCD screen, with a bag of Doritos and a box of pizza?

They ate the meat they hunted, the fish they caught, berries, fruits, and whatever vegetable existed at the time. There was no aisle after aisle filled with products with ingredients we cannot even pronounce! Everyone knows for a fact that our bodies were not built to process these food-like products and yet according to LiveScience “only 3 percent of Americans are living the healthy life”.

Have we become so dependent on factory made products that we forgot what it means to fuel our bodies with the right food?

By avoiding the certain foods (foods our body was never built to digest) based on Paleo and focusing on setting a path to a healthier life, you will begin to see why our body was built the way it was. You will be amazed, to say the least. Paleo helps you re-establish that connection with your body. It reminds us how our bodies were originally meant to be fueled. No more counting calories, or using scales, or wondering why you always feel tired for no apparent reason.

By adopting this lifestyle, you are making a commitment to yourself to better yourself. As one of my favorite Instagrammers (Ryan Carter) always says, “Where focus goes, energy flows”.

Believe me, once you get the simplicity of it, you’ll wonder why it took you so long to figure it out in the first place.
